Colchester Labor Day Celebration
For over 150 years, folks have gathered from across the region and beyond to make in the annual Colchester Labor Day Celebrationin Unforgettable Forgottonia. This event, which began a century and a half ago as a simple village picnic has grown to feature a parade, carnival, food and drink vendors, flea market and various entertainment. The event is free and open to the public.
This year the festival will feature Alabama-based K&S Southern Midways carnival. K&S will provide a variety of rides, games and food Thursday thru Sunday.
Deliver the Party Inflatables from Carthage, IL, will be on hand Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 7pm.
On Saturday only, Deliver the Party will bring out their 24 foot tall rock climbing wall and its Meltdown inflatable, which is a 30 foot wide circular inflatable apparatus with two rotating arms.
Inside the circle there are pedestals for people to stand on and then jump over the rotating arms. Those two items will be open only on Saturday, from 1pm until 7pm. All of the other inflatables will be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including inflatables appropriate for toddlers through adults.
A fireworks display will light up the night on Saturday starting between 9:30-9:45 pm depending on when the lighting is right, according to the Colchester Labor Day/Festivals/Events Committee, chaired by Alderman Catherine Louderman, who spoke about the festival in Tuesday night’s meeting.
As tradition has it, the Colchester Lions Club will open events Thursday night with activities running through Monday morning.
There will be entertainment shows on the pavilion stage in the City Park, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For children and adults alike, a giant-sized Jenga game and a Connect-the-Dots game are sure to be a hit.
Pricing for the carnival armbands is $20.00 for Thursday night only, and tickets for the remaining days will be available for purchase, as well. Pricing for the inflatable armbands is $10.00 each day, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
48th Annual Argyle Antique Gas Engine Show will also be held at Argyle Lake State Park, Argyle Park Rd, Colchester, IL Friday, August 29 - Sunday, August 31.
